Performing with SMO at the European Student Orchestra Festival
Münster, Germany
13 to 16 March 2024
Young Ukrainian musicians from the Music for the Future project were invited by the Slovenian Youth Orchestra (SMO) to join their performance at the European Student Orchestra Festival (ESOF ’24), held in Münster, Germany.
SMO was invited to participate at the festival under the auspices of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Münster University. This was the festival’s first edition in Münster and its 12th overall, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration among university orchestras from across the continent.
The festival provided students with the opportunity to broaden their musical knowledge and experience, establish new connections, and build international bonds that transcend geographical boundaries. Under the baton of conductor Živa Ploj Peršuh, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra performed Beethoven’s Symphony No 3 in E-flat major, op. 55, known as “Eroica.” Their outstanding performance brought the entire audience to their feet, earning the orchestra a standing ovation.
The festival’s highlight underscored the power of music, which for years has united diverse cultures and created unforgettable moments of artistic expression. The success of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra at ESOF ’24 is not just an addition to our artistic journey but also a significant contribution to strengthening international ties and friendships among young musicians across Europe.
