Young People Learn to Become Active Global Citizens
Brdo pri Kranju, 18 August 2025 – At this year’s Summer Orchestral Camp of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra, which for the first time is being held under the international SIT DOWN initiative, young participants are not only rehearsing music – they are also learning how to become active global citizens.
Guided by mentors Kaja Primorac and Faris Kočan, the advocacy workshop introduced them to what it means to have a voice in the international community and how to use it for the greater good. They explored:
-
how to discover the tools for effective advocacy,
-
that this is lifelong knowledge, reaching far beyond the music camp,
-
the importance of active participation in the global community,
-
how to address challenges that transcend national borders,
-
and how to become messengers of peace.
The young musicians reflected on the role of the United Nations, on their fears and hopes for the future, and practiced how to express these clearly, confidently and with courage.
In the coming days they will put this new knowledge into practice at the SIT DOWN Panel, where they will meet diplomats, ambassadors and Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon. There, they will share their views on the world directly with decision-makers – boldly, honestly and without borders.
